Sunday, Sunday

You know of all days of the week to have it together, I wish is was Sunday. In our family it is the most important day because it is the day we focus on ministry, serving, and doing church. I know you can do it any day, but let’s admit that for pastor’s families, Sunday is “the day”. It never ceases to amaze me how many things go wrong at our house and in our family on Sunday morning. Like today, for instance, I awoke several times last night with disturbing dreams about my family, so i was tired, then the breakfast i was preparing for the kids got burned, I had to change clothes because i got oatmeal and snot on them, we were running late anyway and then I got behind the slowest car in history on the way to church. I just wanted to bite someone’s head off, which my kids probably will tell you I did a little. Anyway, once we got to church and the kids were where they were supposed to be I went to the bathroom to regroup. I loved the worship music this morning from Tenth Avenue North. I was able to refocus on God for today and get it together. The morning ended up great and lots of new people found Oak Leaf. Limelight was good too. All in all is was a good day. I guess there is always next week to practice my patience and long suffering again. Maybe one of these days, I won’t be so frazzled when I get to church.

Oh, to be a kid again

Our lives are so busy and hectic with all we just “have” to get done everyday. We don’t stop nearly enough to just have fun. Having young kids really forces you to do just that. I mean, I can’t go too many hours without making some crazy animal noise and a silly face, or dance to a musical toy or (my all time favorite) have a pretend meal with a stuffed or imaginary toy. Kids just know how to have fun. They are not worried about impressing anyone and they truly enjoy every moment, in the moment. The simplest things can bring them such joy. For example, I took the kids out for ice cream tonight. The thoughts going through my mind after I mentioned this to the kids were: great, now I have to get the kids (all 3) done with dinner, wiped off, shoes on, diapers changed, put into car seats, grab the phone, lock the doors, wipe runny noses, fight the traffic and lights, get home later than usual, rush to get baths done and then a late bedtime. Now, all my kids were thinking was Yea!! ice cream!! yummy, yummy! fun with mommy! As I was sitting at Dairy Queen watching the girls eating their treat, I was blessed. I know this sounds corny, but my day was really brightened by their smiles, laughter and joy. Lauren and Emma were covered in ice cream and they didn’t even care. I love my little kiddos and they bring me such joy and they remind me to stop and have fun every day.

Big Move

Oak leaf is moving to Woodland PAC. My family is very excited about the change of venue for church. Lauren thinks it is so cool that we will be in high school for church. She is almost 6 and thinks that highschoolers must be the coolest poeple on earth so being in their school may rub off on her. I am ready to move on to the next level. There are so many seats to fill there and I am excited about the stories we will hear this year. God is all over this church and I am so happy to be a part of it.
